Photographs, Autographs and Ephemera

R.M.S TITANIC. - Georgette Alexandra MADILL (1896-1974). An interesting a.l.s from Madill addressed 'Dear Doris' on White Star 'On board R.M.S. Titanic' headed paper, dated 'April 10 1912', 4pp. (but written on 3pp.). 8vo (180 x 117mm.) The letter informs the recipient that they boarded in Southampton at 11.30 and sailed at noon, the letter also describes an incident with another ship early on its voyage: 'The "Oceanic" & "New York" were moored beyond us and just after we had left the dock the "New York" broke her cables & drifted into our stern - it was most exciting!'; it also mentions that they are about to land at Cherbourg. (Some soiling, one minor spot to first page and folded). Note: although lacking the original envelope it is assumed that this letter was sent from Cherbourg or less likely Queenstown. Wealthy American heiress Georgette Madill, later Mattei, was a First Class Passenger staying in cabin B-5 travelling with her mother and cousin. She survived the disaster and was rescued in Lifeboat 2.

AUTOGRAPHS, Richard ATTENBOROUGH. A group of 4 t.l.s by Richard Attenborough to Miss Jean Martin, on Charter Film Productions headed paper, 1947-1948, each 200 x 127mm., discussing his movies, including 'Brighton Rock' and 'Dancing with Crime', three with original envelopes, together with a small group of autographed letters to the same recipient.

CAMPBELL, Donald. A t.l.s. by Campbell addressed 'Dear Mr Secretary [of the Lancing College Motor Club]', dated '6th August 1955', 255 x 205mm., expressing thanks for a telegram.

AUTOGRAPHS, Ringo STARR. A black and white photograph of Ringo Starr signed in blue ink, 140 x 90mm.

AUTOGRAPHS, Paul & Linda MCCARTNEY. A Christmas card dedicated 'To John', signed in blue ink by Paul and Linda McCartney, 164 x 105mm, together with a black and white photograph signed by Paul McCartney.

AUTOGRAPHS, George MARTIN. A black and white photograph of the Beatles' producer signed in black ink and dedicated 'Best Wishes to John', 178 x 125mm.

KRAY, Reginald 'Reggie'. An a.l.s. from Kray to 'Brad' [Lane] dated 16th March, 6.50am Friday', 295 x 208mm, discussing problem solving, signed 'God bless, love, affection Dad' with a doodle of a smiling face with speech bubble saying 'Cushdy Mush!', with original envelope. Note: Brad Lane developed a strong pen-pal relationship with Reggie Kray and was eventually legally declared as his adopted son.

AUTOGRAPHS. An album containing a collection of tipped-in black and white photographs of actors and actresses, the majority signed, the autographs including Anna Neagle, Bette Davis, Deanna Durbin, Ray Milland and Joan Crawford.

AUTOGRAPHS. An album containing a collection of tipped-in black and white photographs of actors and actresses, the majority signed, many dedicated to Vera Walton, the autographs including Laurence Olivier, Anna Lee, Ivor Novello, Moira Shearer and Noël Coward.

AUTOGRAPHS. An album containing a collection of tipped-in photographs and postcards of actors and actresses, most signed, including Emlyn Williams, Celia Johnson, Sarah Churchill, Coral Browne, Vera Lynn and Gracie Fields.

AUTOGRAPHS. A 1992 edition of 'The Boxtree A-Z of TV Stars', a 'Who's Who on Television' and other leaves, signed by over 200 actors and actresses mostly beside their entries, including Anthony Hopkins, Donald Sinden and Jeremy Sinden.

AUTOGRAPHS, EROTIC DANCERS. A collection of mounted leaves, the majority signed by erotic dancers, 1950s and 1960s.

AUTOGRAPHS. A signed black and white photograph of Edward VIII when Prince of Wales, H.R.H. Princess Alice and Lord Athlone in Pretoria signed by all the sitters and dated 1925, the photograph 150 x 200mm.

PHOTOGRAPH. - J. Benjamin STONE (photographer). A black and white photograph of the Yeomen of the Guard, 195 x 245mm., signed and dated Feb 16 1909, by the photographer, together with a postcard of related interest.

BRUNEL, Isambard Kingdom. A stereoscopic photograph titled verso 'The Late Mr. Brunel', circa 1860, overall 82 x 173mm., blindstamped 'The London Stereoscopic Company, 54 Cheapside'.

PHOTOGRAPHS, ROYALTY. A collection of 41 photographs of Prince Philip's visit to the Falkland Islands, one inscribed verso 'pictures taken by Mr Richard Alcock'. Note: Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, visited the islands as part of a Commonwealth tour on the Royal Yacht Britannia from the 7th-9th January 1957.

GREETINGS CARDS. A collection of 21 Victorian and Edwardian greetings cards.

HITLER, Adolf. A group of 5 photographs or machine-prints and 2 postcards relating to Hitler, together with 3 printed postcards depicting scenes during the revolution and establishment of the Portuguese Republic in 1910.

VANDERBILT, Alfred G. An advertising poster for 'The Venture Brighton & London Coach', circa 1908, 1005 x 630mm, text printed in red and black surrounding a lithographed vignette of the coach, published by David Allen & Sons Ltd, within an ebonized frame.
