Fine British and Continental Ceramics

A Continental porcelain animal group, possibly Italian, early 19th century, modelled as a bear attacking a bison, raised on a naturalistic base, incised 'P' to base, height 16cm (minor faults).

Two Staffordshire porcelain dog whistles, circa 1830, both modelled as the head of a white hound with black markings and painted facial details, length of each 5cm.

A Barr Flight & Barr Worcester porcelain two-handled vase, circa 1815, the urn shaped body painted with a titled view of Blarney Castle, Cork, reserved within a gilded frame against a pale blue marbled ground with gilt cracked ice detail, flanked by gilded eagle handles with outstretched wings, raised on a gilded square base, puce painted marks and title to base, height 36cm (converted to a lampbase).

A jasperware black ground Portland vase, probably Wedgwood, 19th century, typically decorated in white with an unclothed representation of the marriage of Peleus and Thetis, a basal disc depicting a head and shoulders portrait of Paris, the neck applied with loop handles, unmarked, height 28cm. Note: rather than sprigged decoration, this example would seem to display integrally cast relief ornament with a painted background, perhaps suggesting it is from an edition dating to 1839. See Robin Reilly and George Savage's 'The Dictionary of Wedgwood', p.276.

A Berlin porcelain figure group, titled 'Jupiter and Mnemosyne', first half 19th century, modelled in conversation, she seated, he standing beside with his arm on her shoulder, a dog behind them, on a naturalistic base, moulded title to reverse edge, underglaze blue sceptre mark to base, height 19.8cm.

A pair of English porcelain ice pails and covers, early 19th century, each cylindrical tapering body enamelled with floral bouquets and scattered sprigs beneath low relief floral moulded detail, flanked by angular handles with gilded detail and raised on four square feet with gilt enriched moulded claws, unmarked, height 28cm (some faults).

A large pair of Coalport porcelain two-handled vases and covers, 1860s, the U-shaped bodies each painted with a continuous mountainous riverscape view beneath a foliate moulded band, flanked by high-loop ribbed gilded and black enamelled handles, the necks with similar landscape painting beneath the domed covers with acanthus knops, raised on circular feet and square bases, unmarked, height 81cm (minor faults). Note: a similar shaped vase, catalogued as 'Exhibition Quality', was sold by Tennants Auctioneers, 17th November 2011, Lot 49.

A Meissen porcelain figure group The Rape of the Sabine Woman, late 19th century, the male figure holding aloft the scantily clad female, both with flowing robes, on a naturalistic base with scroll moulded detail, crossed swords in underglaze blue, incised model No. '1919', red painted '19', height 18.5cm (minor faults).

A pair of Austrian terracotta wall plaques, late 19th/early 20th century, modelled as an elderly man and woman each appearing to lean out of a wooden shuttered window, both wearing glasses, he with a cap and she a bonnet, impressed numerals to reverse, height 38cm (restoration).

A large Massier Vallauris French majolica pottery wishing well, circa 1880, modelled as a rustic brickwork well surmounted by and surrounded by birds, raised on a naturalistic base, the overhead arch supporting a pulley mounted with a bucket on a chain, suspended above a removable metal liner, indistinct moulded monogram mark to side edge, height 44cm (one bird re-glued into position).

A Liberty Moorcroft Hazeldene landscape pattern vase, circa 1903, of squat bulbous shape in shades of green and blue with yellow detail, brown printed 'Liberty' mark to base with green painted signature, height 10cm (fault to rim).

A Macintyre Florian Ware biscuit barrel with plated mounts and cover, 1898 to circa 1905, designed by William Moorcroft, the baluster body decorated in shades of blue with the Poppy pattern, the rim mounted with a swing handle, the plated cover with ring finial, brown printed and green painted marks to base, height to top of rim 14cm.

A Royal Worcester porcelain two-handled ivory ground vase, circa 1886, the pear shaped body painted in the manner of Baldwyn with roosting birds framed by a night time sky and gilded moon, flanked by pierced gilt scroll handles, raised on a circular foot, puce printed and impressed marks to base with shape No. '982', height 26.5cm.

A pair of Royal Worcester blush ivory two-handled vases and covers, circa 1909, the ovoid bodies painted by W. Hale, signed, with opposing panels of gilded and enamelled flowers, within raised framing against a green shot relief moulded scale ground, flanked by mask moulded handles above the spreading circular feet, the covers with pseudo crown knops, puce printed marks to bases with shape No. '2330', height 36cm (one repaired at top of foot).

A large Royal Worcester porcelain blush ivory ground ewer, circa 1892, the shield shaped body decorated with gilt enriched flowers and foliage, between moulded detail, beneath a high scrolling foliate moulded handle, puce printed and various painted marks to base with shape No. '1309', height 40cm.

Two similar Royal Worcester porcelain vases, early 20th century, painted by H. Martin, one painted with roses, the other with roses and bellflowers, raised on foliate scroll moulded feet, printed marks to bases, height 25.5cm.
