Clocks and Barometers

A late 19th century lacquered brass cased pocket barometer, the silvered dial inscribed 'Compensated Stanley London 2273' (hand detached), within a red leather case, together with two bedside alarm clocks (faults), one with case.

An early 20th century plated mantel timepiece, the white circular enamel dial with black Roman numerals and inscribed 'Bravingtons Ltd London', the oval case decorated in relief with palmettes and scrolls within a ribbon border, on a rectangular base and bun feet, height 18cm.

An early 18th century crossbanded walnut longcase clock, the eight day movement with five turned and finned pillars, anchor escapement and striking on a bell, the brass break arch dial with subsidiary date dial to the arch flanked by pierced and cast dolphin and scroll spandrels, the silvered chapter ring with black Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, framing a matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds above a polished oval panel inscribed 'D. Quare & S. Horseman, London' and numbered '179', cornered by cast and pierced mask and scroll spandrels, the hood with flat top above an arched moulded cornice, glazed door and turned Doric columns, the trunk with arched door ornamented with ebony and boxwood stringing, on a similarly decorated base and plinth, height 232cm, with pendulum, two brass cased weights and winder (some restoration and alterations). Note: Daniel Quare and his former apprentice Stephen Horseman are recorded as being in partnership at Kings Arms, Exchange Alley, between 1718 and 1733. Following the death of Quare in 1724, Horseman continued to make clocks in the style of Quare until the business was declared bankrupt in 1733.

A George III oak longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the painted break arch dial with rocking ship to arch above Roman hour numerals framing subsidiary seconds and date dials, inscribed 'Tickle N. Castle', cornered by painted flowers, the hood with flat top and moulded cornice above a glazed door and turned columns, the trunk with arched door on a plain base and plinth, height 211cm, with pendulum and two weights.

An Edwardian inlaid mahogany longcase clock with eight day three train movement chiming and striking on eight bells and five gongs, the brass break arch dial with silvered chime/silent indicator to the arch above a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes, framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds dial, all cornered by cast and pierced gilt winged cherub mask and foliate scroll spandrels, the hood with swan neck pediment and three brass ball finials, above inlaid foliate scrolls, glazed door and gilt brass Corinthian columns, the trunk arch door inlaid with ribbon tied festoons and foliate panels, on a similarly inlaid base and bracket feet, height 235cm, with pendulum and three weights.

An early 19th century mahogany longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the painted break arch dial with rolling moon to arch above black Roman hour numerals, subsidiary seconds and date dials and inscribed 'Brown, Birmingham', the hood with swan neck pediment above glazed door, turned columns and pierced fret panels to sides, the trunk with panelled door and turned columns, on a panelled base and bracket feet, height 241cm, with pendulum and two weights.

A mid-19th century figured mahogany regulator longcase clock, circa 1840, the brass four pillar movement with deadbeat escapement and maintaining power, the 13 inch 'split dials' design silvered brass circular dial with outer Arabic seconds ring framing subsidiary hours and minutes, inscribed 'John Pengelly Barnstaple' above 'Regulator', the hood with carved foliate scroll surmount above a circular glazed door and cut corners, the trunk with cut corners and glazed rectangular door on a plain base, height 198cm, with pendulum, brass weight and winder.

A late 19th century Continental gilt brass carriage alarm clock with large platform escapement, striking and repeating on two gongs, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals above subsidiary alarm and date dials, each with Arabic numerals, the glazed case with swing carrying handle above foliate scroll decorated corner columns and bun feet, the solid back panel with shuttered winding holes and inscribed 'Spät' and 'Fräh' above 'Weger' and 'Datum', the base numbered '13237', height 16.4cm (some faults and case loose).

A 20th century brass cased circular ship's timepiece, the painted circular dial with black Roman numerals, slow/fast indicator, subsidiary seconds and inscribed 'Smiths Astral', diameter 18cm.

A late 19th century French pottery cased mantel clock with eight day movement striking on a gong, the white enamel circular dial with black Roman hours and outer Arabic minutes framing flower festoons, the rococo scroll moulded balloon shaped case decorated in blue with putti, musical instruments and flowers, picked out in gilt, height 34.5cm, with pendulum and winding key.

A Jaeger-LeCoultre Atmos Tuxedo mantel timepiece with signed jewelled gilt brass perpetual movement, numbered '67453', the white circular chapter ring with gilt hour batons, the gilt brass and glazed case with hinged front door, on bracket feet, height 22.5cm.

An early 20th century oak cased GPO No. 46 timer, the case with moulded pediment and glazed hinge door, height 54cm, together with a Synchronome Second Impulse clock, the square black dial with white outer Arabic minute ring framing subsidiary seconds and hour dials, and inscribed 'Synchronome, London', within an oak square case with glazed front, height 33.5cm. Note: the Synchronome Second Impulse clock was formerly from the Greenwich Observatory.

A late 19th Century French rosewood and gilt bronze portico clock with eight day movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the silvered dial with Roman numerals within a scroll decorated gilt bronze surround, above a scallop shell and winged dragon bob pendulum, the case with boxwood inlaid foliate scrolls and four pillars, on bracket feet, height 47cm, with a key.

A late 20th century lacquered brass carriage timepiece with eight day movement, the enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and inscribed 'Elliott London', the glazed case with swing handle, height 17.6cm.

An early 19th century oak and mahogany crossbanded longcase clock, with eight day movement striking on a bell, the painted break arch dial decorated with a figural scene to arch above Roman hour numerals framing subsidiary seconds and date dials and inscribed 'Henfrey Leicester', the hood with swan neck pediment above a glazed door and fluted columns, the trunk door and base with shell paterae inlaid decoration, height 233cm, with pendulum and weights.

A George V mahogany cased mantel timepiece, the silvered circular dial with black Roman numerals and inscribed 'Windsor Bishop Norwich', the balloon shaped case on brass bun feet, height 15.1cm.

A late 19th century French black slate and brown patinated bronze clock garniture, the clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the backplate with Richard & Cie maker's mark, the dial with gilt Roman numerals, the case surmounted with a bronze Marly horse and attendant, above bowed sides inset with bronze panels of classical figures, total height 55cm, with pendulum and winding key, together with a pair of matching cassolettes.
