Contemporary calf (extremities rubbed, upper hinges of vols. 2 and 3 weakened, minor loss to spine ends). Note: rare. The first publication of Shakespeare outside England. (Occasional browning, some corner creasing, pencil marks to front pastedown). Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (extremities rubbed). CICERO, Marcus Tullius. Orationum… volume tertium. Frankfurt: A. Wechel, 1590. 8vo (171 x 104mm.) Printer's woodcut device to title and verso last leaf, rear blank with near contemporary ink annotation. (Lacking initial blank, near contemporary drawing to front pastedown, considerable ink underlining and marginal notes, damp-staining throughout.) Near contemporary blind-stamped pigskin (upper joint splitting, minor rubbing).

MANUSCRIPT. - [A group of five hand-written 'Memorandum' books, being copies of letters sent from an Englishman to various recipients. N.p.: 1757-1771.] 381pp., manuscript, 4to (various sizes from 231 x 190mm to 330 x 203mm.) Comprising 381pp. of densely-written copies of letters in a mostly legible hand sent from a man called 'Sullivan' and relating mainly to his business affairs in Lisbon. (Some creasing, browning, occasional minor soiling.) String-bound. Note: 'Sullivan' writes mainly to business contacts in London, Liverpool and Dublin regarding his business of importing goods into Lisbon. He buys tea from Holland Rotterdam and Gothenburg and brandy from France and Spain ('these are staple commodities'), and later he is involved in 'the lottery business' and writers letters to those that have invested ('I wish you were not in such a confounded hurry when you write to me'), and but after some years he returns to London and sets himself up as a 'Broker in the Exchequer' and seeks advice from a friend. An interesting account of the vagaries of life in European commerce in the 18th century (5).

Half-titles, 40 wood-engraved plates after Marcus Stone, includes the 3-line slip addressed to the reader bound-in at p.1. (Lacking the publisher's catalogues, light spotting to preliminaries and some plate margins.) Near contemporary green half calf (lacking a lettering piece to the spine, extremities heavily rubbed).

Two parts in one, separate pagination, engraved vignette title-page, 52 hand-coloured plates, 7 medical plates. (Front blank replaced and adhering with tape, some leaves heavily browned, intermittent spotting.)
