Limited edition, this being number 16 of 25 copies on hand-made paper, 4to (218 x 140mm.) 2 engraved photogravures with tissue-guards, including portrait frontispiece. (Toning, uncut leaves, browning to pastedowns.) Original tan buckram, t.e.g. (light rubbing, minor spotting to margins and lower cover). Note: compiled after Lady Clark's death by her friend Catherine Frere who arranged it from a mass of nearly 3000 manuscript pages from sixteen note-books. Lady Clark began her note-books in 1841 after her mother, Lady Coltman, had compiled one in 1839.

Portrait frontispiece, a variant p.1 also bound-in, 'Bills of Fare' and 14pp. index to rear. (Toning, occasional spotting.) Original blind-stamped brown cloth (sunning to spine, wear to spine ends). Note: Francatelli's first book. - And a further two volumes by Francatelli ('The Royal Confectioner: English and Foreign', 1874, 8vo, and 'The Cook's Guide, and Housekeeper's & Butler's Assistant', 1880, 8vo) (3).

Folding hand-coloured lithographic frontispiece of the Niagara Falls, 2 hand-coloured engraved maps, 1 folding, 4 uncoloured lithographic plates, 3 folding, 16pp. publisher's advertisements to rear of volume 2. (Browning, regular minor soiling and finger-marks throughout, spotting to 'Niagara Falls' frontispiece, lacking 1 coloured plate.) London: John Murray, 1832-1833. 3 vols., second and first editions, 8vo (212 x 132mm.) 4 engraved maps, 2 folding and 2 hand-coloured, 4 uncoloured engraved plates, 2 hand-coloured aquatint plates, indexes to rear, numerous wood-engraved illustrations, 1p. publisher's advertisement. (Lacking half-title to volume 1, frontispiece of volume 2 nearly detached, initial blanks of volume 3 adhering, toning, occasional spotting.) Near contemporary half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, red morocco lettering pieces to the spines, Thomas Graves' armorial eagle motif in gilt to base of spines (lacking several lettering pieces, endpapers replaced on volumes 2 and 3, light rubbing). Note: volume 1 is a second edition, volumes 2 and 3 are first editions. Inscribed 'From the author. To Lieut. Thomas Graves, RN. H.M.S. Mastiff- Rec'd. at Napoli Le Romania, Dec 22nd 1832' with Graves' monogram at the end. From May 1832 until February 1836 Graves was Commander of H.M.S. Mastiff and surveying the Mediterranean. GOLDEN COCKEREL PRESS. - T.E. LAWRENCE. Crusader Castles. London: Golden Cockerel Press, 1936. 2 vols. Limited edition, this being number 432 of 1000 copies, 4to (247 x 183mm.) Titles in red, numerous photographic illustrations. (Lacking the 2 maps, label residue on pastedowns, small reference labels on titles and stamps verso, toning.) Original russet half morocco bound by Sangorski and Sutcliffe (large damp-stain to upper cover of volume 2). Note: originally written in 1910 as an undergraduate thesis, this work was put together after Lawrence's death in 1935- with part 2 containing his letters home from bicycle trips to France to research medieval castles in 1907. In 1909 his research took him to Lebanon and Syria. The question of whether the improvements in military architecture were taken from the West and exported by the Crusaders to the East- as Lawrence believed- or if they were imported from the East to the West, is still contested (2).

(Toning, marginal insect damage throughout, rear blank of volume 1 nearly detached.) Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering pieces to the spines (rubbing to extremities, some surface loss). Limited edition, this being number 451 of 1200 copies, 4to (253 x 172mm.) 16 colour lithographs by Marie Laurencin, some full-page, numbered at colophon to rear, publisher's note tipped-in. (Spotting to preliminaries and rear blank.) Original pear green paper-covered boards, red cloth spine label, dust-jacket (browning to spine, minor chipping). Provenance: W.M. Carver (ink inscribed to front-free endpaper).

MINIATURE BOOK. The Smallest English Dictionary in the World. Glasgow: David Bryce and Son, [n.d. but 1893.] 64mo (27 x 18mm.) Frontispiece of Samuel Johnson. (Toning, some creasing to frontispiece.) Original red morocco covers, gilt lettering to covers and spine (creases to spine, small mark to upper cover), tin case with inlaid magnifying glass (some rusting to the tin). - And a further six small format books (7).

MINIATURE BOOK. The English Bijou Almanac for 1838. Poetically Illustrated by L.E.L. London: Schloss, [1837.] 64mo (14 x 9mm.) 6 wood-engraved portraits and 1 illustration drawn by Letitia Elizabeth Landon. Original limp black roan with onlaid red morocco diamond, decorative gilt surround and lettering, g.e., in original matching slipcase with the miniature tortoise-shell magnifying glass, housed in a green morocco-covered case, gilt lettering with brass clasp (minor mark to case).

DARWIN, Charles. The Structure and Distribution of Coral Reefs. London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1874. Second edition revised, 8vo (173 x 114mm.) 2 folding maps, including 1 hand-coloured, index. (Lacking 1 map, lacking publisher's advertisements, toning.) Contemporary cloth (rubbed, spine ends bumped, paper label mounted to upper cover).
