(Stamps to plates and occasionally to text, toning.) Contemporary mottled calf (rubbing, surface loss at base of spine). Provenance: Worthing Public Library (labels to initial blank and rear pastedown).

SPORT. - John CAIRNIE. Essay on Curling and Artificial Pond Making. Glasgow: W.R. M'Phun, 1833. First edition, 8vo (218 x 135mm.) 4 lithographed plates. (Toning, spotting to verso and to margins of frontispiece, occasional pencil annotation.) Contemporary green cloth boards, paper label mounted to spine (lightly rubbed, a few marks). Note: an early and influential essay on the sport of curling which described the 'Cairnie lake' - an artificially made surface for playing when natural lochs or deep water were not suitable.

MANTELL, Gideon. A Narrative of the Visit of their Most Gracious Majesties William IV and Queen Adelaide, to the Ancient Borough of Lewes, on the 22nd October 1830. London: Lupton Relfe, 1831. First edition, 8vo (216 x 134mm.) (Lacking frontispiece, damp-stain to lower margins, occasional spotting.) Original boards, paper label to upper cover (upper cover detached, lacking top of spine panel, staining). Note: scarce. Provenance: by descent, from the estate of Rendel Williams.

Limited edition, this being number 4 of 200 copies, 8vo (214 x 130mm.) 20 wood-engraved illustrations and decorations by David Jones, Eric Gill, Desmond Chute and Harold Purney. (Toning.) Original buckram-backed paper-covered boards, paper label mounted to upper cover, glassine dust-wrapper (loss to extremities and spine). - And a further four volumes published by St. Dominic's Press (including 'A Countryman's Calendar' compiled by Gerald Cooper Bateman, 1927, 8vo, and Eric Gill's 'Unemployment', 1933, 8vo, and H.E.G. Rope's 'Pugin', 1935, 8vo, and 'A Fourth Book of Things', [circa 1936], 8vo) (5).

SOUZA, Francis Newton. F.N. Souza 1957. [London:] Gallery One, 1957. 8vo (228 x 149mm.) Portrait frontispiece after a photograph by Ida Kar, photographic illustrations of artworks. (Toning.) Original wrappers (slight soiling to upper cover). Note: scarce. An exhibition catalogue for Souza's second exhibition at Victor Musgrave's 'Gallery One'. From 1964 he was represented by the Grosvenor Gallery, owned by Eric Estorick.

FLEMING, Ian. From Russia With Love. London: Pan Books Ltd, 1963. Reprint, signed by Ian Fleming, 8vo (178 x 114mm.) (Browning to margins.) Original card covers (some wear to base of spine, crease to lower cover, textblock at p.158 slightly cracked, minor corner creasing). Note: the vendor's father was Kenneth Risbridger, green-keeper at the Royal St. George golf club in Sandwich, Kent. Ian Fleming was a keen golfer. He had a holiday home near the course and was a committee member of the Royal St. George. Aged thirteen, the vendor bought this paperback book, and asked Fleming to sign it. Fleming had always been friendly and would take him out in his sports car. He remembers how Fleming would stop at the 12th hole of the course because the beer hut was nearby. He would miss the 13th, 14th, and 15th holes, but would rejoin the course at the 16th. On 11th August 1964 Fleming was attending a meeting at the club, and was due to be elected captain and this was also the day that Kenneth Risbridger's son, John, asked Fleming to sign this paperback. Fleming died of a heart attack the following day and so the vendor believes that this is the last book that Fleming signed. Provenance: John Risbridger (signed by the author on the title-page).

Signed on the limitation page verso the title, numerous full-page illustrations and in the text. (Mild toning.)
