[COOPER, William]. Yarns for Green Hands: a Treatise on Practical Yachtsmanship by Vanderdecken. London: Hunt & Co., 1860. First edition, 8vo (199 x 123mm.) 2 folding plates, 2pp. advertisements at rear. (Some browning and spotting, heavier spotting to folding plates.) Original cloth blocked in gilt and blind, spine gilt with a twisted rope and anchor design (extremities bumped and scuffed, spine slightly darkened, joints starting to split). Provenance: George Fenwick (bookplate to front pastedown and signature to front-free endpaper); George Naish (ink inscription 'from the collection of George Naish 1978' to front-free endpaper); The Michael Gilkes Collection. Note: George Naish was the son of a keen maritime archaeologist and joined the National Maritime Museum in 1935, in 1940 he joined the Royal Naval Volunteer becoming lieutenant-commander on transferring on demobilisation to the Royal Naval Reserve, in 1947 Naish became Honorary Secretary to the Society for Nautical Research and attained the ranks of Keeper and Historical Consultant at the Maritime Museum.

Newcastle: Andrew Reid & Company, Limited, 1902. First edition, 8vo (243 x 149mm.) 1 colour map, 17 uncoloured maps and charts (6 folding). (Light browning, minor marginal ink stain to p.54, marginal browning to map of 'Eyemouth'.) Original cloth blocked in black, red and gilt, emblem of Northumberland Yacht Club to upper-cover (extremities lightly bumped, spine faded, cloth soiled, previous bookplate removed from front pastedown with associated abrasion). Provenance: Robert Barrington Baker (signed and inscribed 'Vice Com. Rl Cruising Club' to front free endpaper). - And thirty-six other volumes relating to sailing navigation (including: W.H. WHEELER. 'A Practical Manual of Tides and Waves'. London: 1906; T.H. TIZARD. 'The Tides and Tidal Streams of the British Islands, the North Sea, and the North Coast of France… first edition. London: 1909).
