FORESTER, C.S. (1899-1966). [The Works.] London: Michael Joseph Ltd., 1946-1967. 18 vols., the majority first editions, 8vo (118 x 180mm. and larger). Contemporary blue (16), red (1) or green (1) morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, covers with gilt ruled margins, the spines gilt in six compartments with raised bands, lettered in gilt, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (most spines faded, small chips to the head of the spine of one volume). Provenance: C.S. Forester and his second wife Dorothy (presentation copies, specially bound and given to the author or his wife by his publishers Michael Joseph, one with publisher's presentation slip loosely inserted); The Forester and Troughton-Smith Family Archive. Note: a unique part-set of the U.K. edition of Forester's Works, the majority the author's own copies presented to him by his grateful English publisher. Contemporary morocco, the spines gilt in six compartments, lettered in gilt in the second and fourth, the others with repeat decoration in gilt, t.e.g. (a few spines slightly faded, one faded to brown). Provenance: C.S. Forester and his second wife Dorothy (presentation copies, specially bound and given to the author or his wife by his publishers Little, Brown and Co., one with publisher's presentation slip loosely inserted); The Forester and Troughton-Smith Family Archive. Note: a unique part-set of the American edition of Forester's Works, the majority the author's own copies presented to him by his grateful American publisher.
