20th Century Design

A Pablo Picasso white earthenware 'Face' plate, circa 1960, the rounded square body decorated in relief with a smiling face, the reverse impressed 'Madoura Plein Feu, Empreinte Originale de Picasso' and inscribed in black 'T121 21/100', height 25cm, width 25.5cm. Note: a similar plate is illustrated in 'Picasso, Catalogue of the edited ceramic works 1947/1971' by Alain Ramié, p.450, number 449.

A group of three Fornasetti Tema e Variazioni black printed porcelain wall plates, each depicting an image of Lina Cavalieri, printed factory marks and numbered '37', '201' and '262', diameter 26.2cm, together with a similar Rosenthal Fornasetti plate with gilt rim, diameter 23.8cm, and a Stephanie Fernald Ceramic Designs Fornasetti style bone china plate, diameter 26.5cm.

Gwen Johns - 'Hollow Form', a 20th century brown and gilt patinated abstract cast bronze, on a rectangular slate base, bearing paper label to underside with artist's name and title, height approx 33.5cm.

A mid-20th century copper cubist figure of a buffalo, height 17cm, length 19.5cm.

An Alessi 'Fruit Mama' fruit stand, the green polyamide top section raised on a stainless steel base, height 27cm, width 33cm, boxed.

A late 20th century Italian red leather revolving armchair by Natuzzi, the rectangular back and angular armrests raised on a brushed aluminium base, height 97cm, width 71cm.

A mid-20th century Danish teak and black leather armchair, possibly designed by Finn Juhl and possibly made by France & Son, the angled back and seat flanked by shaped arms and raised on turned tapering legs, height 77cm, width 77cm.

An early/mid-20th century novelty bedroom chair in the form of a circus drum, designed by Cecil Beaton, circa 1935, the back and seat upholstered in cream leather flanked by drum beater handrests, the red painted cylindrical base with applied string bands, height 88cm, width 49cm, depth 46cm. Note: this chair was originally designed as part of a circus themed bedroom for Ashcombe House in Wiltshire, where Beaton lived for seven years during the 1930s. A similar chair can be seen on the V&A Museum Collections Archive website, museum number 'W.54-1984'.
