A group of mourning jewellery relating to the Chaloner family of Kingsfort County Meath, Ireland, comprising a gold and white enamelled ring, the shank detailed ‘Thos Chaloner Obt 16 Jany 1771 Aet 20’, glazed with a woven hair locket compartment, unmarked, ring size approx G1/2, an oval watercolour portrait miniature on ivory of a gentleman, mounted to a clasp later converted for wear as a pendant, unmarked, 3.3cm x 2.8cm, excluding mount, with paper label detailed ‘Revd Chas Betty’, another oval watercolour portrait miniature on ivory of a gentleman, mounted to a gilt metal clasp, 3.3cm x 2.7cm excluding mount, with paper label detailed ‘John Chaloner Esq’, both Circle of Gustavus Hamilton (1739-1775), a gilt metal mounted woven hairwork bracelet on a snap clasp, and a George III shilling 1787, gilded and pierced with a hole, all later displayed in a 19th century fitted case. Note: a non-transferrable ivory exemption certificate has been granted for the sale of this item.
