A Chinese Canton lacquer games box and cover, early 19th century, of rectangular form, the interior fitted with a set of four interfitting boxes and covers and a longer rectangular box and cover, all decorated in gilt with central crest and initial 'G' oval panel within borders of fruiting vine and meandering leafy foliage on a dark brown/black ground, length 29.2cm, width 26.3cm, height 7.4cm, the five interior boxes containing a collection of one hundred and sixty-two Canton export mother-of-pearl gaming counters, all finely engraved, some with matching crest and initial, within foliate borders, comprising twenty-nine oval, fifty-three circular and eighty of elliptical form (minor faults).
