Various bindings, red and green cloth with gilt lettering to spines to vol. 100, and paper wrappers thereafter (fading to cloth spines, some wear to spine ends, light rubbing). Note: between November 1963 and December 1996 the definite article was omitted and it was known as 'Railway Magazine'. Provenance: J.C. CAULFIELD, Patrick. Quelques Poèmes de Jules Laforgue. London: Petersburg Press and Waddington Galleries, 1973. Limited 'Edition B', being number 60 of 200 copies signed and numbered in pencil by Patrick Caulfield and with the suite of 6 colour screenprints signed and editioned by Caulfield in pencil to the verso, folio (405 x 353mm.) 22 colour screenprints accompanying the text in French. (Occasional, minor mark.) Original periwinkle blue calf covers (some rubbing and wear to spine ends), periwinkle blue calf slipcase (rubbing to extremities), the screenprints mounted and in matching silvered frames (a crease to the signed screenprint 'I'll take my life monotonous' and also a crease to 'I've only the friendship of hotel rooms', some scraping to the frames). Note: the screenprints are: 'Ah! Storm Clouds Rushed From the Channel Coasts', 'I've Only the Friendship of Hotel Rooms', 'I'll Take My Life Monotonous', 'Her Handkerchief Swept Me Along the Rhine', 'My Life Inspires So Many Desires' and 'And I'm Alone in My House'.

MANUSCRIPT. [A hand-drawn Spanish antiphonal. N.p.: circa late 18th Century.] 158pp., manuscript, elephant folio (654 x 471mm.) 79 leaves of Latin hymns and psalms with text and musical notation in black, initials and hand-drawn staves in red. (Lacking title and some leaves, 9 leaves detached, several leaves with parts excised and cut, damp-staining mostly marginal, rust-marks and chipping to margins.) Original wooden boards with metal borders, steel bosses and clasps (rusting, and lacking a boss and clasp, worn).

ATLAS. - Emmanuel LE SAGE, Comte de Las Cases. Historical, Genealogical, Chronological and Geographical Atlas, exhibiting all the Royal Families in Europe… translated from the last and much improved French Edition. London: Gold and Co., 1818. Second edition, folio (501 x 363mm.) 38 double-paged plates, including 17 double-paged engraved maps with hand-colouring. (Disbound, some browning to creases of most leaves, occasional spotting, a tear to crease of 'General Picture…') Original boards (detached, worn). Note: contains maps of America, Asia, Africa and several of Europe.

DODD, George. Days at the Factories. London: Charles Knight, 1843. First edition, 8vo (195 x 138mm.) 25 plates, including 2 folding. (Toning, paper repair to p.78.) Original brown blind-stamped cloth (upper joint split, inner hinge weakened, light rubbing). Provenance: Alfred Ernest Maskew(?) (ink name inscribed to front-free endpaper); R.M. Philpott (ink name inscribed to front pastedown); A.R. (Lacking leaves B1-B2 and B7 of OT, Ss3 with a 3-inch tear, marginal tears to Vv3 and Xx4 and M-M8 with large, closed tears, intermittent minor soiling, browning to G1.) (Spotting to endpapers, offsetting to titles, loss to margin of frontispiece of 'Miles Wallingford'.) Near contemporary half calf, two brown morocco lettering pieces to the spines (some fading, surface rubbing to covers) (13).

Titles in red and black, woodcut headpieces and initials to each play, 2pp. publisher's advertisement to rear of vol. 8. (Light browning, marginal damp-staining to first leaves and last leaves of vol. 2 and 3, occasional corner crease.) Contemporary calf (extremities rubbed, upper hinges of vols. 2 and 3 weakened, minor loss to spine ends). Note: rare. The first publication of Shakespeare outside England. THEOLOGY. - Andrew FULLER. Dialogues, Letters and Essays, on Various Subjects. London: J.W. Morris, 1806. 8vo (172 x 98mm.) (Occasional browning, some corner creasing, pencil marks to front pastedown). Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (extremities rubbed). Note: scarce. - And a further six miscellaneous volumes (including P. Hawker's 'Instructions to Young Sportsmen in all that Relates to Guns and Shooting', 1825, 8vo) (7).

CICERO, Marcus Tullius. Orationum… volume tertium. Frankfurt: A. Wechel, 1590. 8vo (171 x 104mm.) Printer's woodcut device to title and verso last leaf, rear blank with near contemporary ink annotation. (Lacking initial blank, near contemporary drawing to front pastedown, considerable ink underlining and marginal notes, damp-staining throughout.) Near contemporary blind-stamped pigskin (upper joint splitting, minor rubbing).

MANUSCRIPT. - [A group of five hand-written 'Memorandum' books, being copies of letters sent from an Englishman to various recipients. N.p.: 1757-1771.] 381pp., manuscript, 4to (various sizes from 231 x 190mm to 330 x 203mm.) Comprising 381pp. of densely-written copies of letters in a mostly legible hand sent from a man called 'Sullivan' and relating mainly to his business affairs in Lisbon. (Some creasing, browning, occasional minor soiling.) String-bound. Note: 'Sullivan' writes mainly to business contacts in London, Liverpool and Dublin regarding his business of importing goods into Lisbon. He buys tea from Holland Rotterdam and Gothenburg and brandy from France and Spain ('these are staple commodities'), and later he is involved in 'the lottery business' and writers letters to those that have invested ('I wish you were not in such a confounded hurry when you write to me'), and but after some years he returns to London and sets himself up as a 'Broker in the Exchequer' and seeks advice from a friend. An interesting account of the vagaries of life in European commerce in the 18th century (5).
