A pair of rare Japanese Imari porcelain dishes, made for the Chinese market, Edo period, mid-17th century, each with lobed petal-moulded rim, painted in the Chinese famille verte style in underglaze blue, iron red, green, turquoise and yellow enamels with gilt detail, the centre with peony roundel, the segmented rim with further peony, prunus, bamboo and chrysanthemum, the underside with prunus blossom floating on a stream, underglaze blue spray and nine spur marks to base, diameters 32.4cm (one with minor rim chips, the other with hairline and small rim chip).
