LOT 1161
A mid-18th century longcase clock dial and movement, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with silvered chapter ring framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds, date aperture and silvered oval plaque, inscribed 'John Tribe Petworth', all beneath a rolling moon to the arch, the eight day movement striking hours on a bell, height of dial 42.2cm, with pendulum and two brass cased weights and a winder, housed within a modern hardwood case. Note: John Tribe (born 1706) is a recorded Sussex clockmaker working in Petworth around 1730 onwards, son of John Tribe of Thakeham.
