A rare Chinese blue and white porcelain 'boys' jar, mark and period of Jiajing, of stout ovoid form with short neck, painted in bright cobalt blue shades with a continuous scene of sixteen boys engaged in various games in a garden setting, all above a lappet band, the shoulder with a ruyi head collar above a double line border, the neck encircled with a keyfret band, underglaze blue six-character mark of Jiajing within double ring to base, height 14.8cm (repaired and drilled through mark to base), fitted with ormolu table lamp mounts with three foliate scroll supports and triform base. Note: a similar mark and period jar was sold by Sotheby's on the 9th November 2011.
