Harold Cohen (British b.1930) - A group of six works, comprising a pencil portrait of a woman, signed and dated 1997, 40.5cm x 29.5cm, a charcoal river scene, three sanguine chalk landscape studies and a pencil study of ferrets, most variously signed and dated, all within stained wood frames (6). Note: Harold Cohen was born in London in 1930. During the Second World War, he was evacuated to the Cornish village of Caerhays, where he was billeted at Caerhays Castle alongside Harold Pinter, who would later become a Nobel Prize-winning playwright. While at Caerhays, the young boys assisted the air defence unit of RAF St Eval by helping to distinguish between enemy and allied aircraft. In the 1950s, Cohen studied at the Royal College of Art, where he was contemporaries with notable artists such as Bridget Riley, Frank Auerbach, Peter Blake, Joe Tilson, and John Bratby. After graduating, he worked for several years under graphic designer Henri Kay Henrion before taking a position as a lecturer in graphic design at Brighton College of Art. There, he collaborated with distinguished colleagues including Raymond Briggs, John Bellany, Gwyther Irwin, and Dennis Creffield.
