A large collection of various die proof engraver's test strikes, including portrait vignettes, borders and other design elements, probably used in the production of banknotes, in various colours on paper/card. Note: looking through the Alan Dow archive, we have been unable to associate these designs with particular banknotes. It is possible that they have been used, but it is more likely that they were ideas to be put forward. Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
