A group of thirteen rare Central Bank of Iceland Sedlabanki Islands progressive die proof engraver's test strikes for the obverse of a fifty kronur note, comprising five full-plate strikes in brown as on issued notes with portrait vignette of Bishop Guthbranthur Thorlaksson to centre, values to top corners, on oversized paper/card with near full-plate margins, and eight die proof portrait vignettes of Guthbranthur in shades of brown, as used on the aforementioned note, on oversized paper/card (all extremely fine, some printer's comments in fields). Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
