LOT 3140
MIDWIFERY. – James Matthews DUNCAN. Fecundity, Fertility, Sterility and Allied Topics. Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1866. First edition, 8vo (218 x 131mm.) Numerous graphs and tables. (Toning, creases to pp. XI-XIV, two illegible names to front-free endpaper.) Contemporary green half calf over marbled paper-covered boards, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (slight loss at top of spine, extremities rubbed, some scuffing). Note: Duncan was a Scottish physician who worked on the women’s ward of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He wrote numerous papers on obstetrics and from 1873-75 was president of the Edinburgh Obstetrical Society. Provenance: Robert Hutchinson (ink name to front-free endpaper); George M. Smith (ink name to the front-free endpaper).
