An extensive collection of Victorian and later dog licences dating from the late 1860s to the 1980s, each of printed paper/card with ink-written details of area and owner, including an example detailed to Lieutenant Colonel Frederick William Burroughs, all within two albums, together with a book 'Licences and Related Ephemera of Great Britain' by R.H. Champion, E.J. Hitchings and E.A. Hall. Note: Lieutenant Colonel Frederick William Burroughs (1831-1905) served throughout the Crimean War and was present at the Battle of Alma and the Battle of Balaclava, commanding the left centre company of his regiment, on which Kinglake bestowed the name of 'The Thin Red Line'. Provenance: the property of a Hampshire private collector.
