A rare mid-16th century Spanish tapestry wall hanging fragment, part of a larger tapestry which originally hung in the cathedral of Girona, as documented by Heinrich Goebel in 'Wandteppiche', his series on tapestries printed in 1928, depicting two full-length figures of shepherds holding crooks, one with a whistle, a dog with spiked collar at the foot of one figure, a woodland with deer and buildings beyond, 164cm x 121cm. Provenance: purchased by the vendor's parents from Peta Smyth Antique Textiles; accompanied by a copy of the purchase receipt, dated 23rd March 1998, stating that the tapestry was part of a series relating the life of Christ and was woven in Barcelona by Joan Ferrer in 1561.
