Gerald Hembdon Seymour Rose – Three Quarter Length Portrait of a Black Man wearing a Jacket and Tie, seated on a Chair, oil on board, signed recto, Bourlet label verso, 91cm x 63.5cm, within a stained wood frame. Note: Gerald Rose (1935-2023) was a renowned British illustrator and author of children's books. He studied at the Lowestoft School of Art, followed by the Royal Academy Schools and gained prominence in the 1960s, often collaborating with his wife, Elizabeth Rose. Their book ‘Old Winkle and the Seagulls’ won the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in 1960. Provenance: from the estate of the late Gerald Rose.
