Born in Wood Green, London, she was the daughter of a dental surgeon and grew up in a supportive middle-class family. Tatham pursued her artistic education at the Southend School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London. Her career began in the early 1920s, marked by a blend of traditional and modern influences. She exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy of Arts from 1918 to 1961, the Paris Salon and the Royal Society of British Artists, showcasing her talents in portraiture and landscape painting. Tatham's style evolved over time, incorporating bold and abstract elements influenced by modernist movements. The sitter, Elizabeth Georgina Thompson nee Kennedy (1891-1978) was the second wife of aircraft designer Norman Arthur Thompson.
