Dorothy Mary Fairley – ‘Alois at Erbalunga, Corsica’, 20th century woodblock in colours, signed, titled and dated ’22 in pencil, 25cm x 20cm, within a painted wood frame. Note: Dorothy Mary Fairley was born in Richmond in 1894 and later studied at Richmond Art School and the Regent Street Polytechnic in London. In 1946, she had a solo exhibition at Walker's Gallery, which was accompanied by a brief catalogue. Her works were also exhibited at the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club, the Society of Women Artists, the Paris Salon and the 7th International Exhibition of Lithography and Wood Engraving at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1939/40. She resided in Robertsbridge, Sussex, until her death in 1984.
