LOT 1196
A mid-18th century oak longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch brass breakarch dial with silvered boss to arch, inscribed 'Thomas Hughes London', above a silvered chapter ring with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes, framing a matt centre with subsidiary seconds and date aperture, the hood with finials, glazed door and turned columns, above an arched trunk door and plain base, height 232cm, with pendulum and two brass cased weights (alterations and restoration). Note: Thomas Hughes is a recorded London clockmaker, apprenticed to his father in 1734 and made free of the Clockmakers' Company in 1742. He died in 1785.
