PYNE, William Henry. The Costume of Great Britain. London: William Miller, 1804. Folio (353 x 254mm.) Title with hand-coloured aquatint vignette, 59 hand-coloured aquatints. (Lacking half-title, the initial blank and front-free endpaper detached, text leaf for first plate ‘Pottery’ is lacking and also plate 59 ‘The Lord Mayor’s Coach’, marginal tears and dust-soiling to first leaves, offsetting, browning.) Near contemporary maroon straight-grain morocco, rolling gilt borders, g.e. (extremities heavily rubbed, minor scuffing). Note: title dated 1804, plates dated 1805-1806. This is the preferred edition, with the backgrounds coloured-in. [Tooley 388.] Provenance: Pte. Boudonesquie (large pencil name inscribed verso plate XXVI).
