LOT 2332
A rare and large ancient Roman bronze figure, early 1st century AD, probably depicting Emperor Claudius (10 BC - 54 AD), well-modelled as a muscular youthful nude with well-defined coiffure and facial features, height 35.5cm, mounted on a stepped wooden plinth. Note: damaged in antiquity to lower legs and arms, although cut marks to arm joints appear more recent. Probably excavated in antiquity, having a deep green/brown surface patina. Provenance: purchased by the current vendor's father during the 1960s and held in the family since.
