British School – Half Length Portrait of William Melcalfe, 19th century oil on canvas, 75cm x 62cm, within a gilt composition frame. Note: according to a letter accompanying the painting, Willia Melcalfe was a sailor from Bramhope, Yorkshire, who was captured by the French, along with his ships, during the Napoleonic wars.
