Gerald Hembdon Seymour Rose – ‘The Canal’ (Man carrying a Bicycle down the Steps of Regent’s Canal), oil on board, signed and dated 1957 recto, title and partial exhibition label verso, 121cm x 74cm, within a painted wood frame. Note: Gerald Rose (1935-2023) was a renowned British illustrator and author of children's books. He studied at the Lowestoft School of Art, followed by the Royal Academy Schools and gained prominence in the 1960s, often collaborating with his wife, Elizabeth Rose. Their book ‘Old Winkle and the Seagulls’ won the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal in 1960. Exhibited: Royal Academy 1957, cat no. 568. Provenance: from the estate of the late Gerald Rose.
