A rare Jaeger-LeCoultre 18ct gold tonneau cased perpetual calendar gentleman's wristwatch with signed and jewelled movement, the unsigned silvered dial with gilt Arabic hour numerals and subsidiary day, date and month dials above subsidiary seconds with moonphase, the case back detailed '0.750', the case interior numbered '30159', import mark London 1938, case width 3cm. Provenance: formerly the property of Sir John Reeves Ellerman, 2nd Baronet (1909-1973), who was a shipowner, natural historian and philanthropist. He was the only son and heir of the shipowner and investor Sir John Ellerman, 1st Baronet, believed to be the richest man in Britain in his day. Gifted to the current vendor's grandfather, thence by descent.
