Note: Frances Trollope was the mother of Anthony, the novelist. In 1827 she took most of her family to the Nashoba Commune, a utopian community in America. After the community failed, Frances moved her family to Cincinnati but financial difficulties saw them return to England three years later. She hadn’t formed a favourable opinion of America (2).
