GROSSMAN, Vassili. With the Red Army in Poland and Byelorussia… translated from the Russian by Helen Altschuler. London: Hutchinson & Co. Ltd., [1945.] First English edition, 8vo (183 x 119mm.) (Mild toning.) Original red cloth (lightly bumped spine ends), dust-jacket (extremities chipped). Note: scarce. Known mainly for his novel 'Life and Fate', Grossman was also one of the first war reporters to chronicle the Nazi extermination camps in Poland and the Ukraine. In this book, Grossman writes directly of the processes of killing in the 'factories of death' that he has heard about, saying that 'I have been told there were over thirty of these death factories in Eastern Poland and Silesia'.
