ROME. - Henrich KIPPING. Antiquitatum Romanarum Libri Quatour. Leiden: Petrum Vander, 1713. 8vo (191 x 120mm.) Text in Latin, engraved portrait frontispiece, additional engraved title, title-page in red and black, 16 engraved plates including 12 folding and 1 large folding engraved plan of Ancient Rome, numerous engraved vignettes. (Browning, damp-staining to preliminaries and to plates, preliminaries loosening, R1 with marginal loss and 1 plate with marginal loss.) Near contemporary vellum, blind-stamped and gilt 'Britannia' emblem to both covers, red morocco lettering piece to the spine (spine panel split with repair, upper hinge weakened, vellum browned). Note: first published in Bremen in 1661, this is considered Kipping's most important work.
