VALE PRESS. - William SHAKESPEARE. Shakespeare's Sonnets, Reprinted From the Edition of 1609… edited by T. Sturge Moore. London: Ballantyne Press, 1899. Limited edition, this being one of 210 copies, 4to (206 x 134mm.) Wood-engraved border, initial, and decoration by Charles Ricketts. (Toning, browning to endpapers.) Contemporary brown full morocco, panelled in gilt in the Arts and Craft style by Douglas Cockerell, g.e. (some scuffing to upper cover, extremities bumped). Note: bound by renowned British bookbinder Douglas Cockerell and dated 1900 in gilt to the rear turn-in. Cockerell taught at the Central School of Art and design from 1897 to 1905 (and again from 1921 to 1935), and also at the Royal College of Art.
