An early 18th century and later oak longcase clock with eight day movement striking on a bell, the 12-inch square brass dial with silvered chapter ring, inscribed 'George Wentworth Oxon', framing a matt centre with silvered subsidiary seconds and date aperture, all cornered with cast and pierced gilt mask and scroll spandrels, the later oak case with moulded arch pediment and glazed hood door, the rectangular trunk door with inlaid bird panel, on a plain base and bracket feet, height 205cm, with pendulum and two weights (alterations and restoration). Note: George Wentworth is a recorded Oxon clockmaker, the son of Thomas Wentworth of Salisbury. He was born in 1692 and died in 1746.
