A pair of Stevens & Williams 'French Ale' shape wine goblets, 1870s, probably etched by the Northwood workshop, with aquatic animals and plants, raised on trumpet feet, height 20cm, together with three similarly shaped goblets, acid etched with classical figures, and two other similarly decorated glasses. Note: this goblet shape is illustrated by Charles Hajdamach in 'British Glass 1800-1914', pl. 168, p.186. Provenance: from the collection of John and Poppy Stallebrass.
