A Chinese Canton export silver gilt, ivory and tortoiseshell brisé fan, mid-19th century, the two silver and parcel gilt guards with filigree floral decoration, the insides and six further silver filigree sticks with blue and green floral and foliate enamelled decoration, alternating with carved and pierced ivory and tortoiseshell sticks, length 24.8cm (two tortoiseshell sticks broken but present), within a fitted export lacquer case with silk lined interior, the exterior with gilt figural and floral decoration, the hinged lid interior with painted figural scene, length 30cm. Note: a non-transferrable ivory exemption certificate has been granted for the sale of this item.
