LOT 1255
A George III ebonized bracket clock with eight day triple fusee movement striking and chiming quarters on a nest of eight bells and striking the hours on a larger bell, with pull repeat mechanism, the backplate with engraved foliate scrolls, the brass 7-inch breakarch dial with silvered chime/silent indicator to arch above a silvered chapter ring and centre with Roman hour numerals, outer Arabic minutes and date aperture and inscribed 'William Berridge London', the case with moulded arch pediment and brass carrying handle, above a glazed front door, on a moulded plinth base and brass bracket feet, height 45cm, with pendulum and winding key. Note: this clock is illustrated on page 131, plate IV/69, of 'The Georgian Bracket Clock 1714-1830' by Richard C.R. Barder. William Berridge is a recorded London clockmaker working on the Oxford Road from 1785 to 1795.
