A rare documentary inscribed pearlware jug, dated 1824, named beneath the spout 'William Palmer' above the date '1824', flanked by a black print of 'The Farmers Arms' and a scene of a field being ploughed by horses above the motto 'In God Is Our Trust', the neck and spout with flowers and foliage in red, green and blue, height 16cm. Note: William Palmer, also known as the Rugeley Poisoner or the Prince of Poisoners, was an English doctor born in Rugeley, Staffordshire, in 1824. He was found guilty of murder in one of the most notorious cases of the 19th century and executed by public hanging in 1856.
