A rare Liverpool creamware jug, circa 1790, printed in black and hand coloured with 'An East View of Liverpool Light House & Signals on Bidston Hill', the lighthouse surrounded by fifty-eight different numbered flags with the details of their owners printed in the key beneath, the reverse of the jug printed in black with 'Bidston Light House Signals' in full text within a foliate surround surmounted by a Liver bird, height 21cm. Note: the lighthouse at Bidston Hill guided ships into the Mersey; the different signals alerted a lookout in Chapel Street which ships were approaching.
