LOT 1253
An early 18th century and later oak longcase clock with thirty hour movement striking on a bell via an outside countwheel, the 10-inch square brass dial with matt centre and date aperture, framed by a chapter ring with Roman hour numerals and inscribed 'Ralph Sayer Lindfield', the hood with moulded pediment and glazed door, above a rectangular trunk door, plain base and plinth, height 168m, (lacking pendulum and weight, faults and alterations). Note: Ralph Sayer(s) is a recorded clockmaker, born in 1691 and working in Lindfield in the early 1700s, brother of fellow clockmaker Thomas Sayers of Lindfield.
