Contemporary calf, red morocco lettering piece to spine (upper cover detached with frontispiece adhering, light rubbing). Note: E. Curll, a bookseller, publisher and friend to Alexander Pope was arrested and jailed for publishing scandalous books such as this one. Curll defended himself by pointing out that 'the bare Reading over the title-page would convince any intelligent person of its irony'. Provenance: R.F.W.
