A George III silver pair cased key wind quarter repeating gentleman's pocket watch, possibly made for the Spanish market, with verge escapement, pierced and engraved balance cock and plunge repeat with hammer striking a bell to inner case, the gilt dust cover signed 'Higgs y + Evans London', the white enamelled convex dial with black Roman hour numerals and outer Arabic minutes and signed 'Hicks V Evans London', the case with pierced and engraved decoration to sides, the outer case plain, unmarked, outer case diameter 5.7cm. Note: the firm of Robert and Peter Higgs and James Evans are recorded London watchmakers working at 7 Sweetings Alley and later Royal Exchange between 1775 and 1832. Provenance: formerly the property of Tom Robinson, past chairman of the Antiquarian Horological Society and author of various horological books including 'The Longcase Clock'.
