PALMIERI, Luigi. The Eruption of Vesuvius in 1872. London: Asher & Co., 1873. First edition, 8vo (244 x 148mm.) 8 wood-engraved plates, 1 folding, 78pp. introduction by Robert Mallet. (Toning, light spotting to front and rear leaves.) Original blue cloth, Vesuvius erupting in gilt to upper cover (spine panel split and worn, rubbing to extremities). Provenance: W. Backhouse (name inscribed to front-free endpaper); L.R. Wager, geologist (name inscribed to front-free endpaper). - And a further two volumes related to volcanology (including the second edition of G. Poulett Scrope's 'The Geology of Extinct Volcanos of Central France', 1858, 8vo, and Charles Daubeny's 'A Description of Active and Extinct Volcanos, of Earthquakes, and of Thermal Springs', 1848, 8vo) (3). Provenance: by descent, from the estate of Rendel Williams.
