A mid-19th century marine chronometer, the two day chain fusee movement with maintaining power and bimetallic compensated balance, the backplate signed 'Morris Tobias 31 Minories London No 736', the signed and numbered circular silvered dial with black Roman hour numerals, outer Arabic minutes, subsidiary state of wind and seconds dials, housed in a brass bowl hung in gimbals within a brass mounted mahogany three tier box, the sides with brass carrying handles, dial diameter 9.5cm, height of box 17.8cm, with winding key (box missing inlaid plaque and other minor faults). Note: Morris Tobias is a recorded London clockmaker working at 31 Minories by 1816 and in a partnership with his nephew Lewis Levitt until 1824. He continued as a sole trader and died in 1846.
