A Japanese lacquered Arita blue and white porcelain vase, Edo period and later, of ovoid form, applied with a wide lacquered band of three panels depicting Buddhistic lions gambling amidst flowers and foliage above waves, within a gilt keyfret ground, the porcelain body painted in underglaze blue with a repeating design of scrolling tendrils, the shoulders applied with lacquered kiku mon, height 41.5cm (faults and losses).
