TATE, Nahum. The History of King Lear: a Tragedy. London: [n.p.:], 1729. 12mo (159 x 92mm.) (Browning, small marginal tears, marginal paper repair to D7, initial blank loose, spotting.) Contemporary brown half calf (upper cover nearly detached). Note: Nahum revised 'Lear' for the sensibility of the Restoration theatre, restoring the original happy ending of the historical chronicles and creating a romance between Edgar and Cordelia, two characters who never even speak to each other in Shakespeare's play. - And a further eleven volumes (including Jane and Ann Taylor's 'City Scenes or a Peep into London for Children', 1814, [77 numbered woodcut illustrations, lacking 3], 12mo) (12).
