Early 20th century blue cloth (damp-spotting to covers). Note: Smith had to battle hard with publishers and printers to be taken seriously, so it is possible that she herself mounted the favourable newspaper review that is under the second preface. With increasing awareness of her importance in influencing the romantic sensibility, Smith has become better known. In the 1830s Wordsworth wrote that Smith was 'a lady to whom English verse is under greater obligations than are likely to be either acknowledged or remembered'.
