A Spanish faience monastic albarello, Talavera, late 17th/18th century, of waisted form, painted in blue with a Catholic armorial surmounted by an abbot's hat, hung with six tassels to each side, above a label inscribed 'PVM.LOM', height 25.3cm (restored). Note: this armorial relates to the Order of Our Lady of Mercy. A similar example is illustrated by Rudolf E.A. Drey in 'Apothecary Jars', p. 145, pl. 74b. Provenance: from the collection of the late Professor Maurice Stacey, previously sold in these rooms 19th November 2020, Lot 1268.
