Robert Edge Pine - Half Length Profile Portrait of Sir William Beauchamp-Proctor, oil on canvas, circa 1772, 65cm x 54.5cm, within a gilt composition frame. Note: William, only son of Thomas Beauchamp by Anne his wife, daughter and co-heir of William Proctor of Epsom, Surrey, sister of George Proctor of Langley Park; baptised 11th May, 1722; M.A., Oxford, 1742. He took the name of Proctor, after that of Beauchamp, in 1744, on inheriting the Langley estate. Created a Baronet 20th February, 1744-5; M.P. for Middlesex, 1747-68; Colonel of the East Middlesex Militia, 1759; K.B., May, 1761. He married, first, 1746, his cousin Jane, daughter of Christopher Towers of Huntsmore, Bucks, who died in 1761, and second, 13th May, 1762, Laetitia, eldest daughter and co-heir of Henry Johnson of Great Berkhampstead. He died at Langley Park 13th September, 1773, aged 51, and was buried at Tottenham. Provenance: Langley Park, Norfolk; by descent within the Beauchamp-Proctor family. A photograph published in 'Country Life' (2nd July, 1927) shows this portrait hanging above a doorway in the library at Langley Park.
